The next morning found Lily jotting a quick note to Gabe to go ahead with the work while she was downtown and leaving the house before he had a chance to show up. She needed air - and space.
Walking through the community park, she tried to analyze her actions the night before, but nothing made sense. She'd been fighting two sides of a war all of yesterday: the impulse to give in and join the flirting game that Gabe had seemed pretty open to, and the sickly fear that kept warning her to stay distant.
She knew the fear was baseless, in many ways. She'd spent three years "Lorne-free", as she put it. Three years learning how to process her past and to put it behind her. Three years focused on her future and her career - and doing a darn good job of it, too.
